I will never return to PDP - Obasanjo tells Makarfi

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has vowed never to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obasanjo said this in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, after a closed-door meeting with the PDP National Caretaker Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi.
Fielding questions from journalists, the former president said, “I will never return to the PDP, just like a dog would never return to its vomit,” the Punch reports.
The meeting which held on Tuesday, Oct. 17. at the Green Legacy Hotel and Resort, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, lasted for one hour.

It will be recalled that PDP stalwarts in Ogun State, recently held a closed door meeting at the Abeokuta residence of former President.
The delegation included members of the caretaker committee in Ogun and a frontline aspirant for the national chairmanship seat, Chief Gbenga Daniel.
Other party chieftains in the delegation were members of the Ogun State Caretaker Committee of the party led by its chairman Bar. Tunde Odanye, former State Chairman of PDP, Elder Joju Fadairo, former governorship aspirant, Kayode Amusan, former minister of steel, Sarafa Ishola, Director of Organization, Ogun PDP, Deji Kalejaiye among others.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Tunde Odanye, disclosed that the delegation visited Obasanjo to solicit for his blessing and support as the party was set to re-invent itself.
Odanye, who noted the Party had transgressed against the former President, further informed journalists that forgiveness was sought and Obasanjo forgave the party.
However, he added that though, Obasanjo insisted that he was done with partisan politics, the former President wished the PDP the best. His words:
“There are no many challenges nor problems in the party, they call it internal democracy but in summary we just want to return the party back to the people and once we are able to do that, am sure that the people will take control.
“The beauty of it is that we have matured politicians here and they understand the game. You know politics is the art of playing brinkmanship. You know where to stop but you pretend as if you’re not going to stop.
“So, we have about seven tendencies, I think six are back, totally on board as you might have noticed. We are working on the seventh. I think six out of seven gives us about 80 percent and we are going to 100 percent.”

On his part, former governor Gbenga Daniel, said he was part of the delegation to consult and solicit Obasanjo’s support ahead of his formal declaration to run for the position of the National Chairman of the PDP.
“I can’t make any move in that direction without the ex–President’s input.
“I’m contesting for the PDP chairmanship position. I’m consulting and Baba is one of the foundation members of the party and we can’t move without him,” Daniel said.
The former governor who governed Ogun State for eight years on the platform of PDP, submitted that the party had become better, more united and being rejuvenated to make it a party to beat both in Ogun State and in Nigeria come 2019.
“We have been united. You can see all of us are here. We have realised that united we stand, divided we fall,” he added.

Daniel would be contesting with some PDP bigwigs who are also aspiring to lead the opposition party. The Political warlords who are also running alongside with the former governor in the forthcoming Chairmanship contest include; former Deputy national Chairman, Chief Bode George and the Chairman of Daar Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi among others..
